There are a lot of misconceptions about sex workers. Many don’t see them as normal human beings. They are seen as super beings, dolls, and devoid of any emotions. However, this isn’t really true. Sex workers are human beings like us. They laugh, cry, shout, and think. In fact, there are a lot of things we can learn from them. Here are a few things they teach us:
Nothing in this world is permanent. Right from happiness to source of earning, everything dies out. Sex workers are the most insecure beings existing in this world. They have a very short earning period. They get old. The body starts showing the signs of ageing and customers stop paying. So one needs to speed up! It isn’t tomorrow but today that you can earn. Most importantly, don’t put off until tomorrow what you can do today.
It isn’t a Matter of Preference
Nothing in life goes by preference for anyone. Sex workers cannot choose their clients. They must go by what they get. The same goes for most of us. The career, the lifestyle, and the kind of objects we have been using may not be according to our choice. This is what life all about. Being happy and contented with what you have in hand is the key.
Grass is Greener on the Other Side
Most people are under a notion that sex workers earn big bucks. But this isn’t even the half truth. Most of the time, they don’t get wages from the brothel owners and pimps. For those operating individually is even harder. Roaming around the clubs, strip centres, and bars isn’t easy. So what you see isn’t always the case. Grass is always greener on the other side.
Sex is about more than Sex
If it is sex with a sex worker, it doesn’t have to be just a job or a service that you have paid for. So why should they be deprived of the simple pleasures in life. They deserve a bottle of wine, a token of appreciation, some flowers, and respect. Sex is not just sex – even for a sex worker.
Respect – Everyone
No one knows what one is going through. Judging life of others and their intentions can be heartbreaking most of the time. A famous story that did rounds across the World Wide Web goes as –
Once, a middle aged man was travelling in a train with his teen-aged son. The son kept asking about each thing that passed by the window, right from a tree to a bus, car, houses, etc. “What is this, Papa” he would ask. The father patiently answered all of his questions. A man sitting nearby got annoyed at this and shouted – “What’s this nonsense? Your son is 16 years old. Doesn’t he know what a tree looks like? This is really annoying. Ask him to stop this behaviour now” the man shouted.
“Sir, my son has recently gone through an eye surgery. He was born blind. It is after 15 years that he is seeing this beautiful world” the father said with tears in his eyes.
